Breakfast Cook

Job Purpose: 

The Breakfast Cook is a vital member of our culinary team, dedicated to providing a delightful start to our guests’ day. Your main goal? To prepare and present delicious, high-quality breakfast dishes that showcase the flavors of Suriname. Beyond that, our bigger purpose is to ensure each guest feels the warmth of a home-cooked meal and experiences the genuine hospitality of Hotel Palacio. We want every guest to feel at home in our beautiful country from the moment they wake up.

Job roles and responsibilities:

  • Prepare Breakfast Items: Cook and present a variety of breakfast dishes according to Hotel Palacio’s recipes and standards, ensuring freshness and quality.
  • Menu Development: Collaborate with the culinary team to introduce new breakfast items that highlight local ingredients and Surinamese flavors.
  • Kitchen Operations: Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies, reporting any needs to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
  • Guest Interaction: Occasionally engage with guests to receive feedback and accommodate special dietary requests with a warm, can-do attitude.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen and service staff to ensure timely and seamless breakfast service.
  • Quality Control: Consistently check the taste, temperature, and presentation of dishes before they leave the kitchen.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly used and maintained, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on culinary trends and continuously seek ways to improve the breakfast experience for our guests.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a cook or in a similar role; experience with breakfast service is a plus.
  • Culinary Skills: Proficient in cooking techniques, with a passion for creating delicious and visually appealing dishes.
  • Knowledge of Cuisine: Familiarity with Surinamese cuisine and international breakfast dishes.
  • Time Management: Ability to work efficiently during early morning hours to prepare for breakfast service.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills with a friendly, approachable personality.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to multitask and maintain high standards under pressure.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and able to adjust to guest preferences and dietary needs.
  • Team Player: Collaborative spirit, willing to support and assist team members as needed.
  • Language Proficiency: Basic understanding of English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Education: Culinary certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of food safety standards and practices.
